President of the Ukrainian Bar Association made a statement in connection with violation of attorney’s professional rights

KIEV - August 1, 2010. President of the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA), Sergei Konnov made a statement in connection with media reports of violations of attorney’s professional rights. In the early morning hours of July 31, 2010 officers at the Prosecutor’s office in Pechersk district of Kiev restrained a lawyer (Oleg Vdovychen) from visiting his client, who was taken in custody at the prosecutor’s. President of the Ukrainian Bar Association called on the General Prosecutor of Ukraine to immediately conduct a review of the facts provided in these media communications. "Should the information on violations of attorney’s professional rights and civil rights of his client be confirmed, the Ukrainian Bar Association requires immediate dismissal of officers in charge", - as referred to in the statement of the UBA President. Sergei Konnov does not exclude the possibility that in the absence of a proper response to violations of law from the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Bar Association will require dismissal of General Prosecutor of Ukraine. |
